SAINT-LOUIS + DJOUDJ ( 3 days 2 nights )

Located on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, the Sahara desert and the sub-Saharan bush, Saint-Louis du Sénégal is without doubt the best introduction to French-speaking Africa. The oldest city built by French colonizers in West Africa (1659), its name Saint-Louis, 'Ndar' in Wolof, was given in honor of King Louis IX of France (1226-1270), for the history of Saint-Louis du Sénégal is intertwined with that of French colonization. Strategically located at the mouth of the Senegal River, the French and English battled for control of the city for many years. The city passed into British hands several times, but the French "toubabs" remained in power the longest, until Senegal gained independence in 1960.
